Lynn Uhlman, Maine InfoNet Technical Report: Lynn reported that new installations such as Sky River and Encore are still in the test mode and InfoNet is still waiting for Innovative before some of the progression can continue.

An upgrade to Sierra will be coming sometime in December or January. InfoNet waits for the bugs to be worked out before going live with upgrades,

New libraries will be migrating into MILS and these records will be appearing in MaineCat.

Lynn explained that the reason that the cataloging meetings are being turned over to the Cataloging Standards Committee is because they at Maine InfoNet are too busy to keep running the meetings and they believe that catalogers know better what they need than InfoNet does.

Maine InfoNet Cataloging Consultant’s Report – Ellen Conway

Maine Infonet has asked me to sharpen my focus on trying to eliminate duplicates in both the Minerva and MILS catalogs.  I am looking closely at many old records as well incomplete records loaded into the catalog with some of the new libraries.  Some of you may be hearing from me with requests for further information about some of these records.  In addition, when I can, I am working on verifying name authorities in Download Library records.

Cataloging Committee’s Expanded Role

The committee is now running the cataloging meetings, managing the listserv, and answering questions submitted to Maine InfoNet (MIN).  The committee will meet over the next few months to plan the agendas for the meeting. If anyone has a topic for the agenda please email one of the committee members. We ask for your patience as we settle into our new role. MIN asked us to shoulder more of the responsibility so they can have more time for system work.

Attendance 2017

A reminder that your library needs to have three meetings attended or viewed in 2017 by January 15, 2018.  Please check the attendance worksheet to make sure your attendance has been recorded. Catalog Training Session 2018

I am pleased to announce that the Minerva Executive Board (EB) has approved our request to fund another training session in 2018.  We will be looking at the survey responses from the 2017 training session for topics. The committee hasn’t discussed place or time. Once we have that determined I will send out an announcement on MinervaCats. Again, lunch will be provided.

Officers for 2017-2018

Chair – Katherine Morgan, Norway Memorial Library

Secretary – Ann Russell, Gardiner Public Library

Attendance Keeper – Holly Williams, Pittsfield Public Library

I want to thank Carin Dunay for being the attendance keeper. She did an excellent job keeping me informed about attendance.  Carin is still the person to contact for the 2017 attendance.

Katherine announced the sad news that our colleague, Ann Marin, cataloger at Lithgow Public Library passed away.  We held a moment of silence for our friend, Ann.

The Cataloging Standards Committee prepared a Minerva Roundtable Survey for 2017 and a copy was passed out to each person at each site and the group was given time to work on it at the meeting.  (The survey has since been posted to other Maine Library listservs for more input)

The responses to the surveys will help in planning and preparing future cataloging training and meetings.

On Order DVD Records were discussed and we agreed that we should not be adding on order records for theatrical DVDs until the cataloger has the item in hand.

Carin Dunay: Marc Leader, 007 and 008 Fields:

Carin discussed and demonstrated these fields and explained that they are required fields. The 008 is required, if applicable. She explained that the information in the 090 field and above is system information and 100 and below is catalog information.

Carin demonstrated how to add an 007 field: Insert a 007 field, expand and add material type and close the field. Expand again and the 007 will have all of the fields open to be filled in.

After a question and answer session the meeting was closed at 12:25 P.M.

Respectively submitted,
