Large Print Books

A large print item should never be attached to the regular print record of the same material. A large print item must have its own specific bibliographic record.

Material Type: The material type in the fixed field at the top of the bib record should be “l” for large type.

008 field: To expand this field, go to “Edit” and select “Expand Field” or press Ctrl-R. The position “Form Item” should contain the code “d” for large print.

300 field: Be sure to remove the phrase “(large print)” from the physical description field if it is present.

336, 337, 338 fields must appear in the record in compliance with RDA, as follows:

r   336   text|2rdacontent
r   337   unmediated|2rdamedia
r   338   volume|2rdacarrier

340 field: Minerva policy encourages the addition of this field, as follows:

Genre headings: The correct heading is “655 _0 Large type books”, to indicate genre. Do not use the phrase “Large print” in the subject area, and do not make a subject heading “650 _0 Large type books”.

Subdivisions: “Large type books” should not be used as a subdivision after the subject heading.
