I.                    Call to order

Called to order at  9:08 AM

II.                 Choose recorder of the day

Recorder for the day is Elizabeth Phipps.

Announcement: There are 185 proposed Cataloging enhancements that have been send to the Innovative User Group Enhancements process.  Twenty enhancements have been submitted overall on behalf of our system.  Check with Laura Gallucci if any questions.

III.             Accept February 8th minutes

With correction of spelling of Laura Gallucci’s and Gretchen Brissette’s names, the minutes were accepted.

IV.              Update on 001 problem

The work on fixing this problem is about one third done.  All Serials Solutions records have been changed, both 001 and 016 fields.  We still need follow-through on the Yankee records.

V.                 Serials Solutions update

It appears that we are pretty much done with updates.

VI.              Dividing the Sound Recording Material type

Laura continues to press III about limiting to item type.  Currently item type’s primary function is for loan rule.  Mary Saunders commented that Maine State Library is purchasing lots of audio books on CD.  Review files are sorted by item location.  Laura asks that we spot check by this time next week to see that this is doing what we want.  New mat types are now in place.  Further discussion was tabled until the next meeting.

VII      Z39.50 cataloging and MilCat update

Law will try Z39.50 at point of cataloging.  Is there a control number issue?  Minerva uses Z39.50 a lot.  Lynn has instructions for using Z39.50, which are in the III manual.  Laura could perhaps do an online tutorial, and she can forward instructions.  We cannot give up our bibliographic utilities.  Would there be a cost savings in terms of OCLC costs? And is this violating OCLC contracts?

How is the connection set up?  Does Laura need to set anything up or is it now available to all?  Orono, Fort Kent, Machias, and Presque Isle are interested in experimenting.  All are invited to experiment and keep an eye on issues.  Lynn Wilcox will be asked for examples.

VII.             Next in-person meeting

May dates for an in-person meeting were discussed.  May 20 was proposed, but may conflict with ACRL in Nashua.  May 23 is another possible date.  Policy will be the focus of that meeting, including the Authority control section revision.  Transition to the new authority control vendor is going well.

VIII.            Order record section draft

Laura will review the draft and send it out.

IX.                 Other

A. Circulation manual

A draft is now available on the Library Support page.  Laura has ideas for a similar format for the Cataloging Standards manual.  The navigation bar is particularly helpful.  Laura and Tim will attempt to create a draft and send the link when it is ready for review.  Laura, Judy, Sharon, and Sheila had agreed to work on this.

B.     Connexion

A number of members are going to Connexion training at Bowdoin.  From Orono’s experience, labels continue to be a big problem.  Sharon is interested in hearing OCLC’s recommendations.  Note that you cannot turn off pop-ups while working in Connexion.  Laura had earlier shared information on label printing in MilCat.  Leslie asked if format changes are possible.  Laura will check and get back to Leslie.

C. Classification Web

Library of Congress will not work with a consortium.  Sharon is pursuing a trial for Orono.

C. Bar codes

Bar codes have been shipped.  Let Laura know when you receive them.

Next Meeting:

Set for Tuesday April 12th from 9-11 AM.

Adjourned: 10:02 AM
