COVID-19 Information for Librarians

Maine InfoNet offices are closed to deter the spread of COVID-19 and are working from home. We may be working non-standard hours. Please submit tickets as usual to https://support.maineinfonet.org.

Information for MILS, Minerva,  URSUS, and Mainecat librarians:

There are important things your library can do (or not do) to keep our systems running as smoothly as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic. This page is not an exhaustive list since the situation is constantly evolving. You should continue to watch your email and listservs for important announcements.

Do not cancel any existing holds in the system. It is better to let these holds sit and we can collect them in lists or possibly through a special III process once ILL delivery is back on.

You may still see requests as existing requests continue to move through the system.  It is best to just leave them to time out on their own. Do not cancel the request and do not pull the material.

Library staff should not place any new holds via the Sierra module whether bib or item to prevent more holds from entering the system.

Library staff should  not clear the holdshelf for the foreseeable future so holds will not cancel and/or new holds queue in place.

Adjust patron expiration dates to maintain online access. If you want us to extend the expiration dates for some of your patrons, please gather them into a list and submit a ticket. We will need to know which list (name and number), and the new expiration date.

On Friday March 20th we will be updating all items that have due dates from between February 1 (long overdue) and April 15. We will set a blanket due date on these items that will be April 15th. This will not affect items that have a status of billed, missing, etc. We will be revisiting this no later than April 10th and will make a decision at that time whether we will further extend due dates en masse in order to avoid courtesy notices.

Please note: This does not work for MaineCat items that are shared between systems. We are working on a method to avoid notices being sent about these items, but they will appear as overdue in a patron’s record
