Fields should be added as &#8216;y'(marc) tagged fields. Fields to include are 561, 583, and 852. \u00a0Most libraries are also using an OpacMsg of &#8216;m&#8217; to denote MSCC material or a &#8216;w&#8217; public note. \u00a0Ursus example:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3655 alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineinfonet.org\/mscs\/wp-content\/uploads\/MSCC-snip.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"616\" height=\"219\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3656\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineinfonet.org\/mscs\/wp-content\/uploads\/583-snip.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"597\" height=\"103\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Note that statements added to monographs with multiple copies may include a subfield x (nonpublic note) as follows:<\/p>\n<pre> |xMSCC Retention requirements: any Special Collections copies; only one circulating copy<\/pre>\n<p>Retention commitments are also recorded in OCLC Local Holdings records under the Shared Print symbol. The same fields as used in the local catalog are repeated here:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.maineinfonet.org\/mscs\/wp-content\/uploads\/LHRMonograph.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2379\" title=\"OCLC Local Holding Record for Monograph\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineinfonet.org\/mscs\/wp-content\/uploads\/LHRMonograph.png\" alt=\"OCLC Local Holding Record for Monograph\" width=\"600\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Note 008 positions 20\/21 (lending) may vary (b=will not lend, u=unknown). \u00a0Lending is not handled through the Shared Print symbol due to additional cost. \u00a0Local holdings records may be created individually or by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maineinfonet.org\/mscs\/?p=2436\">batchload<\/a>. \u00a0If created individually you may be prompted for an encoding level value for position 17 of the leader. \u00a0While these records conform to level 2, the batchloads have set this value to &#8220;u&#8221; &#8211; unknown. \u00a0Either is fine to use.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Multi volume sets have 583s as describe above in the individual item records. However upon export for OCLC, the volume fields are concatenated into a subfield 3 of the 583 to describe the extent of the commitment in the OCLC LHR. For example:<\/p>\n<pre style=\"text-align: left;\">|acommitted to retain|c20130701|dJune 30, 2028|fMaine SC|uhttp:\/\/www.maineinfonet.net\/mscs\/about\/retention-copies|3v.1; v.2|5MeU|zMSCC<\/pre>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a name=\"series\"><\/a>Series (monographic series with checkin records, journals, etc.):<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong>Statements are added at the CHECKIN RECORD level, where appropriate.\u00a0In addition to the fields entered for monographs, checkin records also contain a 583 subfield 3 to describe the extent of the retention commitment. \u00a0 Commitments were only made on material already in the library, and thus these are always closed holdings.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2385\" src=\"http:\/\/www.maineinfonet.org\/mscs\/wp-content\/uploads\/Checkin.png\" alt=\"Checkin\" width=\"555\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.maineinfonet.org\/mscs\/wp-content\/uploads\/Checkin.png 694w, http:\/\/www.maineinfonet.org\/mscs\/wp-content\/uploads\/Checkin-160x60.png 160w, http:\/\/www.maineinfonet.org\/mscs\/wp-content\/uploads\/Checkin-300x113.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 555px) 100vw, 555px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Individual partner libraries may decide to update these holdings in the catalog and in OCLC on an ongoing basis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Retention commitments are also recorded in OCLC Local Holdings records under the Shared Print symbol. The same fields as used in the local catalog are repeated, with the addition of a required 866 field (Textual Holdings).
