Ellen Conway, Technical Report: Ellen reported that the Catalog is now a hybrid of RDA and AACR2 records. She will begin stripping out the GMDs very soon which is expected to be helpful on the patron

Katherine Morgan, Cataloging Standards Committee Report: Attendance: The September 25, 2015 will be the third meeting of the year and the meeting in November will be the last Cataloger’s meeting of 2015 for you to be able to fulfill the requirement of attending three meetings for the year. Reminder that you may attend the meetings or you may view the meetings on streaming video at:

https://www.maineinfonet.org/minerva/governance/minervasolar-catalogers-round-table-meetings/

If you choose to view the streaming video you will need to then confirm that you have viewed it by emailing Carin Dunay at cdunay@smcc.edu to let her know. If you attend live at a site other than Maine State Library you will need to be sure to let Lynn Uhlman know that that day you attended.

Ellen Conway, Reminders: Ellen has been receiving questions about cataloging training and she reminded us that Minerva does not have the funding for the training of cataloging staff. She suggested going online to find cataloging training at ALA and universities for classes. Most are not free but some online information is. Minerva staff will answer questions but they are not able to do training. The Minerva website has info: https://www.maineinfonet.org/minerva/support/cataloging-serials/cataloging-rules-and-instruction/ Webjunction does have online training and most of that is free.

Ellen is compiling a cataloging manual for Minerva which will include policies and procedures. She will be posting this to Minvervacats. She presented the manual that is a work in progress.

She also mentioned that the Cataloging Standards Committee is working on training videos as well.

MinervaCats List: Each library should have at least one person who subscribes to the Cataloger’s list. Go to the Maine State Library webpage and click on Minervacats list:

http://www.maine.gov/msl/libs/listservs.htm

Reminder: Only use the ISBN on the item in hand when adding a record. Never use a subfield or text of

any kind after the ISBN. No paperback, large type, etc.

Ellen also explained how to add the correct indicators and punctuation in fields.

Lynn: Lynn reported that the last Executive Board meeting included a discussion about ITypes.

We had a discussion about ITypes and loan rules. Some libraries may be unintentionally using the 100 field Itypes and if so, a list can be made and MaineCat can fix that.

There was a discussion about when to add brackets to the 264 field and how to add the copyright character from “tools”. Also we discussed setting macros, verifying an author name, adding a new card in Serials and adding serial records as such and not as monographs.

The next meeting will be held November 6, 2015 at 10 am.

Respectfully submitted,
